Primary and SECONDARY School HOMEWORK SUPPORT
AAMEYS has successfully been running Homework programs in Flemington area for 7 years with support through Jesuit Social Services and from the students from the University of Melbourne. Due to the success of the program, we have expanded our program to include Mentoring as well.
The Group provide Primary and high school students from refugee background and residents of the high rise with individual and intensive support with their school homework after school. The Group runs from 4pm to 6pm Tuesday currently and possible through to Thursday each week during school term. Our dedicated volunteers support students with English, increasing numeracy and literacy skills and general education experiences. Students are provided with family type environment practical means and opportunities to succeed in their studies enabling them to integrate into the Australian schooling system. Positive peer relationships are developed along with the understanding of each other’s issues, needs, roles and the education system.
Youth Employment, Education Pathways and Women EmpowermentThe AAMEYS program is volunteer based service and is not funded. Volunteers provide casework to mothers and young people to support with their schooling challenges. They will also increase their knowledge of appropriate support services including other local services. The program also provides Information sessions for families (parents and students) regarding schools programs (homework etc.) and options for young people.

Flemington Victoria Police Multicultural Lunch 2016The Flemington Victoria Police Multicultural lunch was prepared by Ms. Tehiya Umer from African Australian Multicultural Employment and Youth Services to enhance communication and understanding between Police and local communities. In the current climate of fear on "youth crime" in Victoria, our communities are working with VicPol and other local organisations to promote better understand and co-operations. Zero tolerance to violence and better prevention strategy working with Victoria Police.
